Alfa Romeo 75 Original Generation 2.0 Twin Spark 1962 cc Engine

The 75's two-litre Twin Spark combined dual ignition, fuel injection and variable inlet timing, with different outputs for catalyst-equipped versions.

The two-litre Twin Spark

Introduced in 1987, this engine powered the 75 2.0 Twin Spark, part of Alfa Romeo’s Arese-built saloon line. Its significance lay in combining twin-plug ignition with fuel injection and variable inlet-cam timing. The longitudinal installation drove the rear wheels through a rear-mounted transaxle.

Construction and ignition

The 1962 cc inline-four used an aluminium block and head, wet cylinder liners, chain-driven twin overhead camshafts and two valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke were 84.0 × 88.5 mm. Two spark plugs per cylinder improved combustion; Twin Spark described ignition, not valve count.

Catalyst specifications and chronology

Alfa Romeo’s German retrospective lists 109 kW (148 PS) without a catalyst and 107 kW (145 PS) with one, both at 5800 rpm. These are separate specifications, not interchangeable ratings. It places standard catalyst adoption around 1989–1990 and records Twin Spark use in the 1991 Limited Edition. These calendar references do not establish identical model-year changeovers in every market. Manufacturer history and technical table.

Record scope and identification

This record covers the engine beneath the existing 2.0 Twin Spark variant, within the 75 original generation. The separate 1779 cc Turbo engine record belongs to another variant. For an individual vehicle, establish its market, engine identification and emissions equipment before selecting a specification. A precise engine-production end date and a separate engine-manufacturing location are not established here.

Editorial verification

Proposal only; no source files were changed. The supplied catalogue identifies the existing variant parent and a comparable engine record using a displacement-based path. Their full source records were not available for inspection, so front-matter and template conformity remain unverified. The proposal uses the supplied engine model, allowed block types, catalogue page IDs and one immediate-parent relation. The cited manufacturer page was opened. No image is proposed because the candidate image’s creator and licence could not be verified. No generator, quality-assurance script or deployment was run.
