Mazda MX-5 Miata NB 10th Anniversary Edition 1.8-Litre in 1999

The 1999 anniversary edition paired a 1.8-litre DOHC engine with a six-speed manual and distinctive blue detailing.

1999 launch chronology

Announced on 15 December 1998, the anniversary edition commemorated the Roadster’s 1989 debut. Mazda scheduled Japanese sales for 4 January 1999 and overseas distribution for spring 1999. These are announced sales milestones, not verified factory production dates or universal model-year boundaries. Mazda’s contemporary announcement provides the launch evidence.

Anniversary specification

The 1.8-litre DOHC roadster combined a close-ratio six-speed manual with Innocent Blue Mica paint, a blue soft top, polished alloy wheels and a blue-and-black interior. A numbered fender emblem identified the edition. Its significance included bringing the previously Japan-only six-speed transmission to overseas markets.

Markets and scope

Mazda announced 7,500 cars worldwide: 500 for Japan and 7,000 overseas. These figures describe the announced allocation, not independently verified completed production. Mazda described broadly shared specifications, with regulatory differences between markets.

This year record belongs beneath the 1.8-litre DOHC engine, within the NB 10th Anniversary Edition.
