Fiat Uno Original European Generation 70 Turbodiesel

Introduced in 1986, the Uno 70 Turbodiesel combined the compact Uno hatchback with a 1,367 cc turbocharged diesel rated at 70 CV.

Overview

The 70 Turbodiesel was a diesel variant of the original European Fiat Uno generation, introduced in calendar year 1986. Stellantis Heritage identifies its engine as a 1,367 cc unit producing 70 CV, or metric horsepower. It positioned the diesel turbo as a car for frequent, long-distance use alongside the petrol Turbo i.e. Stellantis Heritage.

Italian launch and body styles

Contemporary Italian coverage dated 23 April 1986 describes the Uno TD at the time of the Turin motor show. It lists three-door and five-door bodies, a five-speed transmission and a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel producing 70 CV at 4,800 rpm. These specifications describe the Italian launch offering; they should not be treated as a universal specification for every subsequent market or model year. L’Unità, 23 April 1986.

Engineering

The contemporary report describes a Garrett T2 turbocharger, an air-to-air intercooler and an oil cooler. It reports a dedicated engine-block casting, piston-cooling oil jets and Bosch injection equipment. The chassis changes included larger front brakes, revised front springs and dampers, strengthened front suspension components and an anti-roll bar. Together, these changes show that the TD involved adaptations to cooling, braking and suspension as well as turbocharging. L’Unità, technical description.

Production context and date boundaries

Fiat’s Uno production history identifies Rivalta and Mirafiori as manufacturing sites, but does not allocate the 70 Turbodiesel separately between them. It dates the Uno’s second-series update to 1989 and the end of Italian Uno production to 1995. Neither date establishes this variant’s final production year. The parent record’s 1983–1995 span describes the broader European generation, not a confirmed Turbodiesel production interval. A market-specific end date remains unconfirmed. Stellantis Heritage.
