Original turbocharged engine

Introduced in spring 1985, the 1301 cc engine powered the Uno Turbo i.e.. Fiat’s heritage account associates the car with Mirafiori in Turin and identifies its first series as 1985–1989. This engine belongs beneath the Turbo i.e. variant within the original European Uno generation.

Injection, ignition and boost

The original specification combined Bosch electronic injection, Magneti Marelli digital ignition, a water-cooled IHI VL2 turbocharger and an air-to-air intercooler. Fiat quotes 105 CV and 147 Nm at 3200 rpm. These figures describe the configuration in its Italian retrospective; they are not universal export-market specifications. The engine helped establish the Uno’s sporting identity through turbocharging and electronic control. See Stellantis Heritage’s technical account.

Production period and scope

The retrospective distinguishes the original 1.3-litre first series from a second series beginning in 1989 with 1372 cc and a Garrett T2 turbocharger. Those later specifications belong to a separate engine record.

The 1985–1989 range describes the first-series application, not verified engine-production start and end dates for every market. Export emissions equipment, homologation codes and market-specific outputs require separate documentation. The cited account does not establish the engine assembly plant; the vehicle’s Mirafiori association should not be treated as proof of engine manufacture there.
